Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil

Nov 20
2024
8:00pm - 9:00pm
On Campus Event - Outdoor Space, Old Library Green

Help us honor and remember the trans lives lost in the past year due to acts of violence and discrimination through a candlelit vigil in observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on Nov. 20 to remember and honor those lost due to acts of anti-transgender violence. The transgender and gender-diverse community has continuously faced discrimination and hate, and on this day, we also reflect on the challenges facing this community.

In a world where stories of trans lives and reports of anti-transgender violence go largely unrecognized or are silenced, it is our responsibility to uplift trans stories and say the names of those lost. This year, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember and mourn the lives of over 400 individuals, recognizing also that this number only reflects documented cases of fatal anti-transgender violence and that there are others whose names we sadly do not know. We also acknowledge the disproportionate number of trans women and transfeminine people as well as people of color that are victims to this hate as we continue to reflect on the discrimination faced worldwide.

In honor of those lost and in observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance, we will be holding our vigil service to say the names of our lost trans siblings and to light electronic candles in their memory. Please dress warmly as we will be outdoors.
