Jomaira Salas Pujols ’13 to Join Bard Faculty

Jomaira Salas Pujols ’13, a doctoral candidate in the department of sociology at Rutgers University, will be joining the Bard Sociology Program in fall 2021, the school recently announced.

β€œJomaira Salas Pujols's doctoral thesis, Black Girls’ Journeying: Identifying and Challenging (In)justice through Movement, is interdisciplinary and path-breaking. Interfacing with history, anthropology, and Africana Studies, as well as sociology, her scholarship engages deeply with public-facing projects and civic engagement,” said Deirdre d’Albertis, Bard’s Dean of the College in an of the hire. 

A Posse Scholar at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅, Pujols was a first-generation student who majored in sociology and minored in education. She was also a . Her Mellon research project was conducted under the guidance of Professor of Sociology David Karen.

From 2016-2019 she served as a Young Alumna Trustee on ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅'s Board of Trustees and served as a special representative to the Board from 2019-2020. During her final year with the Board, Pujols co-chaired the Board’s working group on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
